Some of our PensionChair members have found the period between buy-in and buyout to be “a very fraught journey”. Once the excitement of the buy-in transaction has passed, there is still often a lot of work to be done, and some issues surface that can be costly in terms of time and money that are a surprise to trustees.
As preparation is key in this process, by bringing some these issues which can also be surprisingly common to the surface, this meeting will enable chairs to ensure they are in the best position they can be when going through this process, so any surplus is not taken up by costs and schemes are able to get to wind-up.
We will also take time to consider how the trustee skill set needs to change to manage the process effectively, as well as how activities in the process are organised, and risk is managed.
