Professionalisation is one of the biggest focus areas in housing currently, particularly following the Social Housing (Regulation) Act receiving Royal Assent earlier in 2023, which includes mandatory qualifications for managers and new competency standards.
We're excited to welcome Gavin Smart and Jill Murray of the Chartered Institute of Housing for a conversation on the new age of social housing professionals and what lies ahead in 2024. As this requirement is not without controversy we will address some of the lingering questions around the potential positive and negative impacts on your organisation and your teams, as well as some of the potential opportunities including attracting people to the sector. This discussion is a crucial opportunity to gain insights into the trajectory of professionalisation and its potential implications.
Jill Murray, BA FCIH, launched her 'Be EPIC' campaign as the newly appointed Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) President at the CIH's annual general meeting on October 6th, highlighting the increasing importance of housing as a profession and emphasizing the value of continuous learning and development. Be EPIC advocates for competence in professionals, stressing the combination of technical skills, personal competencies, continuous learning, and hard work for success.
Developing the knowledge and skills required by each professional, as well as nurturing the professionalism and integrity with which every colleague undertakes their day-to-day work is critical. Housing Associations leadership teams need to set the direction and create the culture to support professionalisation in a way that maximises the outcomes for their stakeholders.
