The remit of a sustainability department had changed drastically in the last few years. What used to be a largely internal function dedicated to avoiding regulatory fines has turned into a change-focused department involved in educating the wider business on sustainability, and becoming a force for positive action including climate change.
Despite the success of the modern sustainability department, there are still major challenges faced by CSOs in the effective management and deployment of their function. Recognising this, we've put together a workshop, lead by Suzanne Wise (NED and former Lead on Corporate Sustainability at JTI), and Nina Buttle (Partner, Page Executive Financial Services and Sustainability), where we will discuss the history of a sustainability department, what good practice looks like now, as well as the top challenges faced by sustainability professionals in the modern day.
You can expect a high-level discussion on key department topics, such as closing the 'say-do' gap, addressing talent shortages, and creating an internal culture focused on upholding science-based and sustainability targets.
This roundtable workshop will be held in person, and our aim is to better equip CSOs with the knowledge needed to tackle top sustainability challenges, as well as provide further clarity on how their function fits into a wider business.
