The term ‘Flexicurity’ was originally coined in Denmark to describe their employment system which combines flexibility and security for workers. The aim is to improve employment opportunities for workers, while at the same time increasing flexibility, enabling organisations to adapt their operations and employment levels to business needs.
As flexible working is likely to become the norm, employers are starting to implement flexicurity policies that support the various needs of their employees. The hope is that by responding in this way to worker needs and preferences, companies will be rewarded with a motivated and committed workforce.
We hear from Canon how they are introducing company policies that support young workers, older workers and women, in the context of flexicurity, showing the benefits that can be gained for employees and employers alike.
